Author Kathleen Norris to Visit Church of the Heavenly Rest, Abilene

Join the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Abilene for “A Week with Kathleen Norris”! Kathleen Norris is a renowned contemplative writer who will be in residence at Heavenly Rest the week of November 6.

Kathleen has a unique voice that speaks directly to our current time. In an increasingly secular, post-Covid society, she asks urgent and necessary questions about the meaning of Church and the importance of community. Her writings explore why the Church still matters and how community is sacred.

Three events during the week will feature Norris sharing what is currently strengthening her life of faith: 

• Tuesday, November 7: “An Intimate Evening with Kathleen Norris” - You are invited to a special event with Kathleen featuring refreshments, book sale and signing, and dinner in Gerhart Hall. Event begins at 5:30 p.m., and tickets are $50 per person. Please reserve your place by visiting this website before October 31. Space is limited. •  Wednesday, November 8: “Wednesday Night with Kathleen” - Join us for our regularly scheduled dinner at 6:00 p.m. with book sale and signing in Gerhart Hall. Nursery and activities for children will be available in the Parish House beginning at 6:30. At 7:00, Norris will embrace and spiritually interpret our theme of Invitation in the Nave, and offer a Q&A in closing.

• Sunday, November 12 - Kathleen will preach at Heavenly Rest’s 10:30 a.m. service.

Kathleen’s visit is made possible by the Galloway Memorial Fund of the Heavenly Rest Church Foundation, and in partnership with McMurry University, Highland Church of Christ, and Abilene Christian University. During her stay, local bookseller Seven and One will offer a pop-up book shop at Heavenly Rest featuring bestselling titles by Kathleen Norris.
