Bishop Mayer Visits Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo

It was a happy coincidence that the 4th Sunday of Easter, Good Shepherd Sunday, was also the date for the shepherd of our Diocese of Northwest Texas, Bp. Scott Mayer, to be with us to preside at both services on April 30. We were also privileged to happily welcome Kathy Mayer, who accompanied +Scott on the trip to San Angelo. The last time Bp. Mayer was with us was November of 2021, and he took notice of the physical changes since last he was here, including the new 2nd floor location of the Rector’s office, necessitated by a growing Mother’s Day out program, the still in progress renovation of the playground, and the transformation of the Kreps Building from mostly quiet during the week to every room being used for the Emmanuel School of Fine Arts and its nearly 600 participants. While walking around on Saturday afternoon, the Bishop even got to listen in on a musical ensemble at work in the Hershberger Great Room. He was also much impressed by the remodeled Parish Hall, which was decorated for Sunday morning’s Breakfast with the Bishop.

Bp. Mayer presided over both services on April 30. At the 8 a.m. service, he Received Margaret Rodriquez and Tim VonFeldt into the fellowship of the Anglican Communion from the Roman Catholic Church. The 10:30 service saw the Confirmation of Douglas Long. As the Bishop said in both of his sermons, it was a great day for these three, but also a great day for the Church because their presence and unique giftedness will contribute to the continuing mission of the Church, which the Bishop said is to share the good news that in Christ, you are forgiven.
